In the Spiritualist context, a medium is one who often referred to as a sensitive, someone who is a link between heaven and earth, the next world and this. A Spiritualist medium would be expected to use their ability to bring evidence of a loved one's survival and continuing existence after they have departed their physical body at so called death. This can and does bring comfort to help the bereaved.
